According to our ancient scriptures, when Lord Shiva was establishing the 51 Shaktipeeths of Devi, the Asuras became fearful of their existence and tried to destroy these Shaktipeeths. Knowing this, Lord Shiva assigned the duty of protecting these Shaktipeeths to his Bhairav incarnation. Since then, it is believed that only after receiving the permission from Lord Bhairav, one can get Darshan and divine blessings from Devi Maa. On the seventh day of Gupt Navratri, Maa Kaalratri is worshipped, and on this auspicious occasion, the puja of Kaal Bhairav will also be conducted to seek the blessings of the Goddess. In the Kalimath Temple of Rudraprayag and the Kaal Bhairav Temple of Kashi, a Kaalratri Tantrokta Havan and Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam Path will be performed. In the city of Mahadev, Kashi, nothing happens without Baba Bhairav. According to mythology, once a debate arose between Brahmaji and Vishnuji over who was the greatest. When Brahmaji criticised Shivji, Shivji became furious and gave birth to Kaal Bhairav. Kaal Bhairav cut off Brahma's fifth head, which did not detach from his hand. Shivji then instructed Kaal Bhairav to wander through the three worlds to be freed from the sin of killing Brahma. In Kashi, Brahmaji's head detached from Kaal Bhairav's hand, and he was freed from the sin. After this, Shivji appointed Kaal Bhairav as the Kotwal of Kashi. It is believed that by worshipping Baba Kaal Bhairav, all sorrow, evil eye, disorders, and difficulties are removed.
