The process of Tarpan and Pind Daan, which has been practised for ages, continues today at the Pind Vedies located around the sacred land of Gaya. According to the Skanda Purana, during the Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira performed Pind Daan at the Dharmaranya Pind Vedi for the peace and repentance of the souls of those who were killed.
