Learn the sacred story of Maa Chandraghanta, the third form of Goddess Durga, who is revered for her fierce strength, protective nature, and ability to remove obstacles for her devotees.
According to mythology, Goddess Durga took the form of Maa Chandraghanta when the terror of demons began to rise. During that time, Mahishasur was engaged in a fierce battle with the gods as he wanted to claim Indra’s throne and rule over heaven. Upon learning about Mahishasur's ambition, the gods were troubled and approached Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh for help. Listening to the gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh became enraged, and their anger manifested as powerful energy that spread across all ten directions. From this energy, a divine maiden appeared. Lord Shiva gifted her a trident, and Lord Vishnu bestowed a discus upon her. Other gods equipped the maiden with various weapons and ornaments. Indra offered his thunderbolt and his elephant, Airavat. The Sun god gave her radiance, a sword, and a lion for her mount. Armed with divine weapons, Maa Chandraghanta entered the battlefield to confront Mahishasur. Her grand form terrified Mahishasur, who ordered his army to attack her. Maa Chandraghanta used her weapons to destroy the demon armies completely. Ultimately, she defeated and killed Mahishasur, granting the gods freedom from his tyranny. After her victory, she disappeared.
