Kamika Ekadashi Fast Story

Learn the divine story behind Kamika Ekadashi Fast, where devotees worship Lord Vishnu with deep devotion to attain blessings, peace, and liberation.

Kamika Ekadashi Story

The Kamika Ekadashi story highlights its significance as told by Lord Krishna to Yudhishthira. Once, Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna to narrate the importance of this Ekadashi that occurs during the Krishna Paksha (waning moon phase) of the month of Shravan. Lord Krishna explained that this sacred story had previously been shared by Bhishma Pitamah with Naradji for the benefit of the world. According to Bhishma, Kamika Ekadashi is a day when devotees worship Lord Vishnu with items like incense, lamps, and offerings. Performing this worship grants results far greater than bathing in the sacred Ganges or during eclipses at holy sites. Fasting and worship on this Ekadashi purifies individuals of sins and helps them attain heavenly blessings. The merit of worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day is even more powerful than donating the entire Earth along with its forests and oceans. Observing Kamika Ekadashi also absolves one's ancestors of their sins, offering them peace and heavenly rewards. On this day, offering basil leaves (Tulsi) to Lord Vishnu is considered extremely auspicious. It is said that people who do this remain spiritually untouched by worldly sins, just as a lotus remains dry despite growing in water. The story concludes with Lord Krishna explaining to Yudhishthira that listening to or narrating the Kamika Ekadashi story during the fast brings spiritual rewards and blessings. Observing this fast provides liberation from sins and a path to moksha (salvation).
