History of the temple
Bijasan Mata Temple was established by the Holkar king, Shivaji Rao Holkar in 1760. It is said that the idol of the Goddess Bijasan placed within this temple is over 1,000 years old. Significance of the temple
The temple contains ancient ‘pinds’ of Bijasan Mata with an undeciphered history. It is believed that the pinds appeared on their own, as there is no proper evidence to testify their history. Bijasan Mata blesses devotees with the bliss of parenthood and eternal fortune. Thereby, newlywed couples visit the temple and offer their prayers seeking Ma’s blessings. Further, a tale of the deity’s benevolence talks of Alha-Udal who prayed for a victory over the king of Mandu and achieved it. The temple is also popular amongst the believers of tantra-mantra and Siddhi.
Architecture of the temple
Established on high skills, the old edifice of the temple was constructed with mud and stones. It was renovated as per the Maratha style of architecture in 1920. Along with the Goddess, the temple also houses idols of Lord Shiv, Lord Hanuman and Lord Kal Bhairava. Close to the temple lies a small pond, which provides a habitat for colorful fishes. It is said that a lion used to visit this pond to drink water and he did not harm anyone while doing so.
