History of the Prachin Surya Kund Temple

According to Hindu mythology, during the coronation ceremony of Lord Ram, all the Gods and Goddesses came to Ayodhya. Lord Surya (Sun God) also attended the event and stayed for a month near Darshan Nagar, where the temple now stands. In the early 19th century, Shakdwipiya Brahmin King Shree Darshan Singh built the current temple and kund. He believed the kund held sacred waters and performed penance for seven days. On the seventh day, he heard a divine voice (Akashvani) that guided him to dig at the spot. He discovered an idol of Lord Surya riding a chariot of 7 horses, a Shivling, and a great treasure. He used the wealth to build this holy temple.

Significance of the Prachin Surya Kund Temple

It is believed that taking a dip in the Surya Kund and offering "Arghya" (water mixed with kumkum and mishri) to Lord Surya brings blessings, removes all problems, and fulfills wishes. A famous story tells of King Ghosh, who was cured of a disease after bathing in the kund. Since then, many believe that the waters of Surya Kund can cure skin diseases and improve health.
