In the Puranas, Skanda Purana, Shiva Purana and Vayu Purana mention the glory of Omkareshwar region. According to the legend, Bholenath comes here to sleep at night after visiting the three worlds. It is said that this is the only temple on earth where Shiva-Parvati plays Chausar dice every day. After the night Shayan Aarti, Chaupar is laid out here every day and the sanctum sanctorum is closed. It is surprising that in the temple where even a bird cannot fly at night, Chaupar is found scattered every day.
