It is said that Shiva and Parvati were married in this huge Havan Kund (fire pit), in which fire was lit in all four directions. All the gods and saints, including Brahma and Vishnu, participated in this divine wedding ceremony. Devotees still take the ashes of this Havan Kund home, and consider it a blessing for the happiness of their married life. The name Triyuginarayan was given for this reason, as signs of three yugas are seen here, which depict the divine relations of Lord Vishnu, Shiva, and Parvati. Four important kunds (ponds) are located in this temple complex: Rudrakund, Vishnu Kund, Brahmakund, and Saraswati Kund. The water of these kunds is considered very holy, and this is the place where the deities bathed during the Shiva-Parvati wedding. The water of Saraswati Kund is believed to have originated from the navel of Vishnu, which further increases its religious importance.
