This sacred Rahu temple located in Uttarakhand is a rare place where Rahu is worshipped along with Lord Shiva. There are very few temples in India where Rahu and Shiva are worshipped together.
According to mythology, Rahu and Ketu are parts of the demon Swarbhanu. During the Samudra Manthan, Swarbhanu disguised himself among the gods and drank the nectar of immortality.
When Lord Vishnu discovered this, He used the Sudarshan Chakra to separate Swarbhanu’s head from his body so that he could not become fully immortal. However, since he had already consumed the nectar, he remained immortal. His body became Ketu, while the severed head became Rahu.
It is believed that Rahu’s head fell at this place in Pauri, where the Rahu temple was later established. Devotees visit this temple to seek relief from Rahu-related planetary afflictions, especially Kaal Sarp Dosha, Rahu-Ketu Dosha, and Rahu Mahadasha.
