According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Chandra (Moon) favored Rohini among his twenty-seven wives, which angered Daksha Prajapati. Due to excessive affection for Rohini, Daksha cursed Chandra with consumption (tuberculosis). When Chandra sought refuge with Lord Vishnu, he suggested Chandra Dev worship Lord Shiva in Prayag.
