Worshiping Lord Shiva on the first Monday of the New Year 2025 can be highly auspicious. Monday is especially dear to Lord Shiva, and it is believed that worshiping Him on this day pleases Him quickly. According to ancient mythology, Lord Chandra (the Moon God) worshiped Lord Shiva on this day to rid himself of a disease. As per the scriptures, Lord Chandra chanted the Mahamrityunjay Mantra and received Lord Shiva’s blessings for good health and a disease-free life. It is believed that reciting this powerful mantra can bring blessings of good health and a stress-free life from Lord Shiva. Additionally, performing a Dhanvantari Havan along with the chanting of this mantra is considered to amplify the benefits of the ritual manifold.
According to a legend mentioned in religious scriptures, after emerging from the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), Lord Dhanvantari requested a position from Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu replied that Dhanvantari had arrived slightly late, but he would be born in the second Dwapar Yuga on Earth in a royal lineage. He further blessed him, saying that Dhanvantari would become renowned and worshipped across the three realms. As a result of this boon, in the second Dwapar Yuga, Lord Dhanvantari was born in the royal family of King Kashi in the sacred city of Kashi, founded by Lord Shiva. Later, Lord Dhanvantari studied Ayurveda under Sage Bharadwaj and divided it into eight branches. Lord Dhanvantari was known to possess comprehensive knowledge of all medical treatments. According to the scriptures, performing the Mahamrityunjay Mantra Jaap and a havan dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari bestows blessings of good health, longevity, and a stress-free life. On the auspicious occasion of the first Monday of the New Year, a special ritual including 11,000 Mahamrityunjay Mantra Jaap and Dhanvantari Havan will be organized at the Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. According to a mythological story, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night after wandering through all the three worlds.
