Somvati Amavasya occurs when Amavasya falls on a Monday, and it is considered highly auspicious in Sanatan Dharma. Each tattwa corresponds to a sacred temple, amplifying the spiritual experience and drawing divine grace for good health and protection from negative influences.
Significance of the Five Elements and Associated Shivalayas
1. Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Madhya Pradesh – Prithvi (Earth Tattva)
Located on the sacred island of Mandhata, shaped like the symbol "Om," Omkareshwar embodies the stability and grounding of the Earth element. The Prithvi Tattva symbolizes strength, foundation, and unwavering devotion. Chandan Abhishek is performed here as a representation of the Earth Tattva.
2. Mahamrityunjaya Mahadev Temple, Kashi – Jala (Water Tattva): Situated near the holy Ganga, this temple in Kashi radiates the purity and divine flow of the Water element. Representing purification and rejuvenation, the Jala Tattva is enhanced by the chanting of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. Ganga Jal Abhishek is performed here as an expression of the Water Tattva.
3. Mangalnath Mahadev Temple, Ujjain – Agni (Fire Tattva): Known for its association with Mars (Mangal), this temple channels the fiery energy of transformation and vitality. The Agni Tattva signifies purification and empowerment. Homa is conducted here as a representation of the Fire Tattva.
4. Pashupatinath Mahadev Temple, Haridwar – Vayu (Air Tattva): As the gateway to the Himalayas, Haridwar symbolizes the breath of life and spiritual elevation. The Air element, or Vayu Tattva, represents movement and liberation. Kala Til and Incense Abhishek are performed here to embody the Air Tattva.
5. Jada Teertham Temple, Rameshwaram – Akaash (Space Tattva): Nestled by the vast ocean, Jada Teertham reflects the infinite and cosmic essence of the Space element. The Akaash Tattva signifies oneness, vastness, and ultimate reality. Camphor and Betel Leaves Abhishek are performed here, deepening the connection to the divine and the expansive spiritual energy of the temple.
