Scriptures suggest that Parthiv Shivlings should always be made from the sacred mud and sand found on the banks of holy rivers like Narmada. According to a popular belief, Narmada is Lord Shiva's daughter. The Narmada River was born from the sweat droplets of Lord Shiva. Hence it is believed that every Stone of Narmada is a Shivlinga. The Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Khandwa is situated on the banks of Narmada river. According to scriptures, among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva the fourth Jyotirlinga is Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, considered a Swayambhu lingam. It is believed that performing puja in Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple, a person gets protection from all negativity and Lord Shiva blesses with the fulfilment of all wishes. According to scriptures, merely visiting Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga can liberate one from all sins. The glory of the Omkareshwar temple is mentioned in the Skanda Purana, Shiva Purana, and Vayu Purana. According to the Puranas, worshipping Lord Shiva on his favourite day, Monday, pleases him quickly. Therefore, on Monday, 1100 Shivlinga Pranpratishtha Partheshwar Pujan will be conducted at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple. This puja will take place on a boat in the middle of the Narmada River, where the Parthiv Shivling will be made, and after the puja, all the Lingams will be immersed in the river, which is known as Narmada Visarjan in Sanatan Dharma.
