Located near the Devagiri hills in Maharashtra, Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga is the twelfth and final Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva, symbolizing the power of true devotion. Its legendary story is associated with Ghushma, a great devotee of Lord Shiva. A Brahmin named Sudharma lived in the Devagiri region with his wife Sudaha and younger sister Ghushma. As Sudaha was unable to bear children, she arranged for her husband to marry Ghushma. Ghushma would worship Lord Shiva daily by making 101 Parthiv Shivlings (clay lingams) and immersing them in a pond with deep devotion. Pleased by her unwavering faith, Lord Shiva blessed her with a son. However, driven by jealousy, Sudaha killed the child and threw his body into the pond. When Ghushma learned of this, she remained calm, showing neither anger nor sorrow, and continued her worship of Lord Shiva with a peaceful mind. Moved by her devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before her, brought her son back to life, and offered her a boon. Instead of seeking vengeance, Ghushma requested that her sister be forgiven and prayed for Lord Shiva to remain at that very spot. Granting her wish, Lord Shiva declared that he would be worshipped there as Ghushmeshwar. Since then, the place has been revered as Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga, where devotees still perform 101 circumambulations in memory of Ghushma’s pure devotion.
