History of the temple
The history of Maa Sankatha' temple is believed to be of Ramayana period. According to religious beliefs, when Pandavas were in exile they came to Kashi. And there they established this grand idol of Sankatha Mata. Pandav worshiped her and stayed at this place for about a year. After there hard worship, Maa Sankatha removed all their sufferings. Pandavas won the battle of Mahabharata with the blessings of Maa Sankatha.
Significance of the temple
In this temple of Mata Sankata, special adornment is done on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the month of Paush, and it is believed that witnessing this special adornment brings immense grace from the goddess and eliminates all fears and sufferings.
Architecture of the temple
The temple of Mata Sankata in Kashi is truly magnificent, with unique architecture different from other temples. The idol of Mata Sankata, about five feet tall, is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. As one enters the temple, there is a spacious courtyard with a giant peepal tree surrounded by platforms.
