Jalpa Devi Temple

Temple dedicated to Sri Ram’s Kul Devi

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India

Situated on the margins of Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Jalpa Devi Temple lies 2 km away from the renowned Ram Janmnbhoomi Temple. The temple is dedicated to the Kul Devi of Lord Ram, Jalpa Devi, also known as Bandi Devi. Famed as a Shaktipeeth and Siddhipeeth, this temple witnesses thousands of devotees daily and the count runs in lakhs during the Navratri festival.

History of the temple

As per religious belief, the temple was constructed in the Treta Yuga during the times of Lord Ram. This spot was purified by the falling of Goddess Sati’s feet and thus, it is considered as one of the 51 Shaktipeeths in the Indian subcontinent. Today, the temple houses the feet sculptures modeled as a pind. Puranic mythology tells that Lord Hanuman visited this temple every Tuesday to offer prayers to Jalpa Devi. Thus, the temple observes hordes of worshippers on Tuesdays.

Significance of the temple

When a devotee renders his faith to the feet of the Goddess at the Jalpa Devi Mandir, the divine liberates him of all his bonds and cages. If one is bearing the brunt of false accusations and court cases, a mere darshan at this sacred spot solves all his problems. According to local rituals, newlywed brides begin their married life in Ayodhya after paying obeisance at the Jalpa Devi Temple.

Architecture of the temple

Jalpa Devi Temple stands as a fine specimen of the Hindu style of temple architecture. The inner part of the temple is decorated with the figures of Gods and Goddesses, finely carved on the rocks. Lord Bhairava is also worshipped in this temple and it contains a special platform for Yagya and other special ceremonies. Further, the garden around the sanctum elevates the divine energy and enriches the spiritual ecosystem of Jalpa Devi Temple.
