The Shanishchar Stavraj Stotra is mentioned in the Bhavishya Purana, and it is believed that those who recite it find relief from all kinds of problems and diseases. If someone is suffering from a terminal illness, this recitation is believed to be very effective. Similarly, in mythological stories, chanting the Shani Kavach is regarded as the most powerful way to please Shani. This Kavach is derived from the 'Brahman Purana'. Shani Jayanti is considered a very auspicious day to please Lord Shani, so reciting the Shanishchar Stavraj Stotra and the Shani Kavach on this day is believed to provide protection from all physical and mental sufferings and liberates one from prolonged problems in life.

The king is believed to have erected this temple following his relief from the malefic effects of Saturn's Saade Saati.
