In Tripindi Shraddha, three pindas (sacred offerings) made from sesame, rice, and kusa grass are offered to three generations — father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. According to the Skanda Purana, during the Mahabharata war, Dharmaraj Yudhishthir performed Pind Daan at the Dharmaranya Pind Vedi for the peace and atonement of the souls of those killed in battle.
