The history of the Pishach Mochan Kund is very ancient. It is said that this pilgrimage site existed even before the descent of the Ganges. The kund is associated with a story of a Brahmin who became a Pishach (demon) due to his actions. Under the guidance of Maharishi Valmiki, he worshipped Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathed in the kund to attain liberation. From then on, the place became known as Pishach Mochan.
There is a belief that an ancient Peepal tree near the kund is home to unsatisfied souls who wait for their families to perform Shraddha and Tarpan rites for them.
