🌑 In the period of a solar eclipse, not only Surya worship but also Pitru Tarpan rituals are considered highly auspicious. Mahalaya Amavasya is regarded as the most sacred day to invoke the ancestors. This year, the occasion is even more special because it coincides with a Solar Eclipse. Such a rare conjunction is believed to open the gates of Pitru Loka, making all rituals for Pitru peace and salvation even more fruitful. On this occasion, the Surya Grahan Maha Pitru Pancha Yagya and Pitru Maha-Tarpan will be performed simultaneously at 5 sacred Tirthas. It is believed that these Vedic rites not only bring satisfaction to the souls of the ancestors but also free descendants from struggles, debts, and family obstacles.
🌞 The 2025 Solar Eclipse
On 21 September 2025, a partial solar eclipse will occur. The Moon will cover about 85% of the Sun. This eclipse will not be visible in India and most of the Northern Hemisphere. Falling on Amavasya, the eclipse day is considered extremely significant in the Hindu calendar. According to astrology, Surya worship and Pitru Shanti rituals performed at this time are especially effective. Moreover, Sarvapitra or Mahalaya Amavasya is the day for Shraddha rituals for all ancestors whose death anniversaries are not known.
🌑 Scriptures describe that offering Pitru Maha-Tarpan in the presence of Agni, Soma, Yama, Rudra, and Vishnu on Mahalaya Amavasya satisfies all ancestors. This ritual is considered beneficial even for those forefathers whose death date is unknown or forgotten. It is believed that such Tarpan directs ancestors toward liberation and blesses descendants with peace, prosperity, and Pitru Dosha Nivaran.
