Navratri’s nine sacred days are dedicated to the nine divine forms of Maa Durga. The sixth day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Katyayani, a fierce form of Durga who destroys negativity and grants strength for righteous battles. On this auspicious day, Maa Chamundi is specially worshipped at her sacred Siddhapeethaa in Kangra. She is the fierce and protective form of Maa Durga, the one who annihilated the asuras Chanda and Munda. The Puranas narrate how these demons were unleashed against the Goddess, yet with one stroke of her divine power, she destroyed them, earning the name Chamundi. Through this leela, Maa revealed that she has the strength to destroy negativity and eliminate hidden forces that disrupt peace, prosperity, and spiritual progress.
