The Padma Purana says -
“Ārādhanānāṃ sarveṣāṃ viṣṇorārādhanaṃ param
Tasmātparataraṃ devi tadīyānāṃ samarcanam”
Among all forms of worship, worship of Lord Vishnu is the highest.
But even greater than that, O Devi, is serving and honoring His devotees.
So every person who is hungry, every soul who is thirsty in the summer heat, they are not strangers. They are devotees of the Lord, carriers of His presence. And when you serve them, you are doing something even greater than worship itself.
Significance of Sharbat Seva
The Garuda Purana mentions that offering water to the thirsty is highly meritorious. Carrying forward this sacred tradition, offering Sharbat on the holy occasion of Purnima becomes an act of punya that nourishes both body and soul. In the scorching heat, when thousands undertake their Teerth Yatra with unwavering faith, your humble offering of Sharbat transforms into a sigh of relief.
Significance of Brahmin Anna Seva
Hindu tradition works on a beautiful principle of - "Annaseva Samam Seva Trilokeshu Na Vidhathe” meaning there is no seva that equals to Anna Seva in all three worlds". When a Brahmin is fed with devotion, it is believed that the merit of this act reaches one's ancestors, the deities, and all living beings simultaneously.
Why perform seva at these 4 locations?
🔸Ganga Ghat: Offering sharbat at the sacred banks of Maa Ganga helps soothe the sufferings carried across lifetimes.
🔸Assi Ghat: Performing anna seva in the city of Mahadev, helps remove the fear of untimely death.
🔸Triveni Sangam: Seva performed here holds the power to transform misfortune in one’s destiny into good fortune.
🔸Dharmaranya Vedi: According to the Vayu Purana, food offered to a Brahmin in the divine presence of Lord Vishnu in Gaya directly reaches the ancestors.
