Pitru Paksha Shraddh Purnima 4 Moksh Teerth Pitru Tripti Tarpan

Purnima is the first night of Pitru Paksha when ancestors begin their descent from Chandralok toward the mortal realm. It is the moment the 15-day window opens, when the ancestor is closest and every offering carries the furthest reach. The first Tarpan of Pitru Paksha, offered on this night, is the first act of nourishment and remembrance your ancestor receives on the journey that has just begun and across 4 Moksha Teerths, it reaches them simultaneously through four of the holiest waters in creation.

🔱 Why Tarpan is the Biggest Pitru Tripti Ritual
The word Tarpan comes from the Sanskrit root tṛp - to satisfy, fulfil, and quench. The offering itself carries its intention in its name. "Triptayami Idam Tilodakam" - I satisfy you with this offering of jal and sesame is a direct declaration of satisfaction offered to the ancestor, not a prayer for something to happen but a statement of what the offering does. The Garuda Purana describes Tarpan as reaching the ancestor through the Chandralok Bridge, wherever they may be, in whatever form they may inhabit. On Purnima, when the ancestor has just begun their descent through Chandralok, that bridge is at its most direct.

🔱 4 Moksha Teerths - Four Waters, Four Dimensions of Tripti
Pishach Mochan Kund, Kashi
Kashi is Avimukta, the city Shiva never abandons, where the Tarak Mantra resonates permanently. Pishach Mochan Kund is the one Kund in Kashi dedicated specifically to ancestors who could not receive proper Shraddh and wander between realms. Tarpan here on Purnima reaches not just the ancestor who is in Pitru Loka it finds the one who is still searching for the path, and guides them toward it through Shiva's own Mantra field.
Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj
Tirthraj, the King of all Tirthas. Where Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati converge, three sacred rivers become three simultaneous channels through which your Tarpan reaches the ancestor. The Agni Purana declares every offering at Triveni Sangam generates Akshaya Punya - imperishable merit that carries forward across every generation and cannot decay with time.
Ganga Ghat, Haridwar
The gateway where Maa Ganga first touches the plains, the sacred river that answered Bhagiratha's generations of tapasya and freed his 60,000 ancestors in a single act of grace. Tarpan at Haridwar on Purnima enters the waters that have carried liberation forward since the moment an entire lineage was freed by the force of one descendant's remembrance.
Falgu River, Gaya
The Garuda Purana's promise about Gaya is complete and unconditional, ancestors are liberated from whatever state they are in. The Falgu carries every Tarpan to Vishnupad, where Vishnu's footprint holds the permanent power of liberation. Tarpan here on the first night of Pitru Paksha reaches the ancestor through the most powerful Pitru Teertha in creation, at the moment they are most ready to receive.
