Pitru Paksha Shraddh Purnima Tri-Pitr Vasu, Rudra, Aditya Tarpan & Havan Ahuti

You performed the rites and said the prayers. But somewhere in the lineage a grandfather whose tithi was never known, a great-grandfather whose name was never passed down, the Shraddh never reached them. Garuda Purana calls this incompleteness. And incompleteness, across generations, becomes the wall you keep hitting without knowing why.
But this Shraddh Purnima known as Parvan Shraddh, Garuda Purana and Hemadri prescribe it for honouring ancestors going back beyond three generations - Pita, Pitamaha, and Prapitamaha. And the Vasu-Rudra-Aditya system exists precisely because the three generations do not dwell in the same realm and a single offering cannot cross all three.

Who are Vasu, Rudra, and Aditya?
Vedic tradition does not treat the three ancestral generations as interchangeable. Each dwells in a different plane, governed by a different divine order, reachable only through a specifically directed offering.
The 8 Vasus govern the elements of creation; they are the closest to the earth plane. The soul of the father, most recently departed, dwells here, experiencing the subtle world most directly. Vasu Tarpan and Havan reach him where he is.
The 11 Rudras govern transformation; they hold the intermediate space between earth and the higher Lokas. The grandfather's soul dwells here, in the space between what was and what will be. Rudra Tarpan and Havan reach him where no ordinary Shraddh travels.
The 12 Adityas are the solar gods; they govern the highest ancestral plane, furthest from the earth. The great-grandfather's soul has progressed furthest from the mortal world. Aditya Tarpan and Havan carry your offering across that distance.

Two Channels - Water (Tarpan) and Fire (Havan) Reach Every Realm
Garuda Purana teaches that Tilodakam - Tarpan in Pitru’s name quenches the subtle thirst of ancestors in Pitru Loka. Water reaches where the soul is hungry for acknowledgement. But where Tarpan quenches, Havan burns, the Rigveda declares “Agnir vai devānām mukham”, fire is the mouth of the gods, and the Vishnu Purana honours ancestral Havan as a great act of Dharma.
Where Tarpan nourishes the ancestor's subtle body, Havan burns away the karmic weight that prevents them from progressing forward. Together, they form a complete offering - one that satisfies, and one that liberates.

🔱 Falgu River, Gaya - Vasu, Rudra & Aditya Tarpan
Garuda Purana: one who has not performed Gaya Shraddh has not fulfilled their ancestral duty. All three Tarpans - Vasu, Rudra, and Aditya are performed here, directing your water offering to each ancestor in their specific realm.
🔱 Pishach Mochan Kund, Kashi - Rudra Havan Ahuti
Pishach Mochan is the one Kund in Kashi dedicated specifically to the liberation of ancestors trapped in Pret-Yoni, souls caught between worlds, unable to progress. The Kashi Khand of the Skanda Purana declares Shiva whispers the Tarak Mantra to every departing soul here, granting liberation. Rudra Havan at Pishach Mochan reaches the grandfather's soul in the intermediate plane, burning the bonds that keep him from moving forward.
🔱 Dharmaranya Vedi, Gaya - Vasu Havan Ahuti
Dharmaranya is one of the most ancient sacred sites within the Gaya Kshetra where even Yudhishthira performed Shraddh and Pitru rituals to cleanse accumulated Pitru Dosha after the Kurukshetra war.
