💰Dhanteras is the night when all of India welcomes Maa Lakshmi into their homes. But scriptures caution that “Rini Grihe Lakshmi Na Tishthati”: Lakshmi does not stay permanently in a home burdened by debt. Whether financial, ancestral, divine or Rishi rin, Dhanteras carries a deeper message: first seek relief from old debts, then welcome new wealth, so that Maa Lakshmi may reside in your home permanently.
🏡Where the burden of debt casts a shadow over a home, the light of prosperity struggles to stay. Maa Lakshmi’s lasting presence is traditionally associated with a debt-free home. This is why our ancestors placed debt-relief rituals before welcoming Maa Lakshmi on Dhanteras. This year, the Dhanteras Shukra Pradosh Yog, occurring just two days before Diwali, is considered an especially auspicious combination for seeking relief from debts and welcoming prosperity.
🤔Why is this occasion considered rare?
💎On 6 November 2026, a special combination of three auspicious occasions comes together: Dhanteras, the Trayodashi of Kartika Krishna Paksha associated with wealth and the beginning of Diwali festivities; Friday, the day associated with Shukra, the planet linked to wealth, luxury and Maa Lakshmi; and Pradosh, the sacred Trayodashi period when devotees worship Lord Shiva and seek His grace.
When Pradosh falls on a Friday, it is known as Shukra Pradosh. It is traditionally considered auspicious for business growth and seeking relief from debts. The occurrence of this Shukra Pradosh on Dhanteras is a special combination that arises only occasionally.
🏛️Rinmukteshwar Mahadev: Where the Pandavas Sought Freedom from Debt
🏹According to temple tradition, during their exile in the Mahabharata, the Pandavas were surrounded by difficulties. They asked Shri Krishna, “Why must we endure so much suffering?” The Lord explained that their troubles were connected to Pitru Rin, or ancestral debt.
Following His guidance, the Pandavas established the Rinmukteshwar Shivling along the Omkar Parvat parikrama route, on the sacred banks of the Narmada–Kaveri confluence in Omkareshwar. Through prescribed abhishek and penance, they sought relief from Pitru Rin.
Since then, this Shivling has been worshipped as Rinmukteshwar Mahadev, the Lord who frees devotees from debt. Here, debt relief is understood to extend beyond financial obligations to include ancestral debt and karmic debt. When all debts are settled, the path to Rajyog and prosperity is believed to open.
🙏Let old debts depart before new wealth arrives this Dhanteras! On this special occasion of Dhanteras and Shukra Pradosh, participate in the Rinmukteshwar Mahadev Chadhava and seek divine blessings for relief from financial debt, Pitru Rin, and karmic debt.
