Learn the sacred story of Pongal, where farmers express their thanks to nature, cattle, and the Sun God. This festival marks the beginning of abundance, unity, and joy in South Indian culture.
According to legends, Lord Krishna, during his childhood, decided to teach the arrogant Lord Indra a lesson. After becoming the king of the heavens, Indra had become prideful. Krishna, along with his friends, convinced everyone not to worship Indra. The people followed Krishna's advice, which angered Indra. In his fury, Indra misused his powers and caused a severe storm with heavy rainfall that lasted for three days, disrupting life on Earth. Seeking protection, the people approached Krishna, who lifted the Govardhan Mountain with his finger, providing shelter to everyone under it. Witnessing this extraordinary event, Lord Indra realized his mistake. He bowed before Krishna and sought forgiveness. It is said that this marked the beginning of the Pongal festival.
