Bijasan Mata Temple is located on a hill near the airport road in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh. With a history believed to be over 1,000 years old, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Bijasan, worshipped in her nine forms. Also known as Rajeshwari Bijasan Mata, she is highly revered by locals and tourists alike. Devotees visit daily to seek blessings.

History of the Bijasan Mata Temple

The temple was built by Holkar King Shivaji Rao Holkar in 1760. It is said that the idol of Goddess Bijasan installed in the temple is more than a thousand years old. In 1860, when the temple completed 100 years, a grand celebration was held. The temple has been renovated several times since then.

Significance of the Bijasan Mata Temple

The temple houses ancient ‘pinds’ of Bijasan Mata whose origins remain unknown. They are believed to have appeared naturally. The Goddess is believed to bless childless couples and bring good fortune. Newlyweds often visit to seek her blessings. Legends say that warriors Alha-Udal prayed here before a victorious battle. The temple also holds special value for followers of tantra-mantra and spiritual seekers pursuing Siddhi.

Architecture of the Bijasan Mata Temple

Originally built with mud and stone, the temple was later renovated in 1920 using Maratha architectural style. Alongside the main idol of Goddess Bijasan, idols of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Kal Bhairav are also worshipped. A nearby pond, home to colorful fishes, adds to the temple’s serene atmosphere. According to folklore, a lion used to drink water from this pond without harming anyone.

How to Reach Bijasan Mata Temple

By Air The nearest airport is Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport, just 1.5 km away. You can either walk to the temple or take an auto-rickshaw from the airport. By Train Indore Railway Station is about 10 km from the temple. Local buses and autos are easily available from the station to the temple. By Road Gangwal Bus Stand is the closest bus stop, located around 6 km from the temple. Indore is well connected to all major cities in Madhya Pradesh through government and private bus services.
