Yamunotri Dham, the ideal starting point for the sacred Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, is a place where pilgrims receive blessings for a safe and spiritually enriching journey. Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the temple stands in the Uttarkashi district, alongside the beautiful River Yamuna. A unique ritual at Yamunotri involves cooking potatoes and rice in the hot spring of Surya Kund, near the temple. The original temple is believed to have been constructed by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the 19th century, although some sources suggest it was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. According to legend, the Sage Asit Muni, who lived in the area and bathed daily in both the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers. Additionally, Goddess Yamuna is considered the daughter of Surya Dev (the Sun God) and the sister of Yama (the God of Death).
