According to legends, once Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi visited Mount Kailash to meet Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. Lord Vishnu brought some food items with him, which he offered to Lord Shiva. When Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati consumed the food given by Vishnu, some of it fell on the ground. From the fallen food, a dark-complexioned Devi was born, who was known as Matangi Devi. Other scriptures mention that Devi Matangi was the daughter of Rishi Matang, the guru of Hanumanji and Shabari. Matangi Devi was born at Matang Rishi's place with the blessings of Goddess Durga. Being the Tantric form of Goddess Saraswati, worshipping Goddess Matangi during Navratri is believed to bring highly auspicious results. Hence, on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, Maa Matangi Tantra Yukta Havan and Maa Saraswati Puja will be organised at the Adi Shakti Mahakali 10 Mahavidya Siddhpeeth Temple in Haridwar.
