According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, Prajapati Daksha organised a grand yagya and invited all the gods and goddesses, but he deliberately excluded his son-in-law, Lord Shiva, and his daughter, Sati. Despite Lord Shiva's advice not to attend, Goddess Sati went to her father's yagya. Angered by the disrespect shown to Lord Shiva, she destroyed the yagya and offered herself into the yagya, ending her life. Enraged, Lord Shiva killed Daksha and entered into deep meditation. Later, Goddess Sati was reborn as Goddess Parvati, also known as Maa Shailaputri, in the house of King Himalaya. After years of rigorous penance, she reunited with Lord Shiva as her husband in her form as Shailaputri. This is why, on the day of Maa Shailaputri during Navratri, performing the Shiv Shakti Vrishabha Pujan and Shiv-Sampurna Vrisharudha Havan is considered highly powerful.
