Triyuginarayan Temple is a historic and sacred site dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in Triyuginarayan village of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand. This ancient pilgrimage site lies on the route connecting Guttur to Shri Kedarnath, and its architectural influence can also be seen in the Kedarnath Temple. The village holds immense religious importance because, according to mythological beliefs, Triyuginarayan was considered the capital of Himavat, and it is here that the sacred wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place.
It is believed that the marriage of Shiva and Parvati was performed in this very grand havan kund, where sacred fire was lit in all four directions. Gods and sages, including Brahma and Vishnu, attended this divine wedding ceremony. Devotees even today carry the ash from this havan kund to their homes, considering it a blessing for a happy and harmonious married life. The name Triyuginarayan originates from the presence of symbols of three yugas, representing the divine connection of Vishnu, Shiva, and Parvati. Within the temple complex are four sacred kunds: Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, Brahma Kund, and Saraswati Kund. The water of these kunds is considered extremely pure, and it is believed that the deities bathed here during the wedding of Shiva and Parvati. Especially, the water of Saraswati Kund is believed to have originated from Vishnu’s navel, further enhancing its spiritual significance.
