This ancient temple in Uttarakhand is one of the rare places where Rahu is worshipped along with Lord Shiva. It is believed that Rahu and Ketu are the two parts of the demon Swarbhanu. During the Samudra Manthan, Swarbhanu deceitfully consumed the nectar of immortality, after which Lord Vishnu severed his head using the Sudarshan Chakra. Due to the nectar’s effect, he became immortal - his head came to be known as Rahu and his body as Ketu. It is believed that Rahu’s head fell at this very place, which is now known as the Rahu Temple.
Devotees visit this temple to seek relief from Rahu-related doshas, especially Kaal Sarp Dosha, Rahu–Ketu Dosha, and Rahu Mahadasha. According to some beliefs, this temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya, while another legend says that the Pandavas built it during their journey to heaven and worshipped Rahu and Shiva here to overcome planetary afflictions.
