In the Sanatan tradition, the worship of Goddess Bhagwati Durga is considered one of the most powerful ways to remove life’s obstacles and gain divine strength. The Durga Saptashati consists of 13 chapters, which describe the glory of the Divine Mother, her immense powers, and stories of how she protects her devotees. When all 13 chapters are recited together, it is called one complete Durga Saptashati recitation. According to the scriptures, when 9 complete recitations of Durga Saptashati are performed, it is known as the Navchandi Anushthan, and when 100 complete recitations are performed, it is called the Shatachandi Anushthan. In the path of Devi worship, the Shatachandi Anushthan is considered extremely powerful and rare.

Following this sacred tradition, a grand Shatachandi Mahayagya will be performed at the holy Durga Kund Temple in Kashi by 51 Brahmins. During this ritual, 100 Durga Saptashati recitations will be completed to invoke the divine blessings of Maa Bhagwati Durga. Along with this sacred ritual, a special havan will also be conducted in which offerings will be made using 21 kilograms of cloves, black pepper, and red sandalwood. These sacred ingredients hold special significance in Devi worship. It is believed that offering these materials in the holy fire purifies the environment and spreads positive spiritual energy.

The Markandeya Purana describes the significance of Durga Saptashati with the verse:
“Sarvabādha vinirmukto dhana dhānyaḥ sutānvitaḥ”
 This means that a person who performs Devi worship with devotion and faith becomes free from life’s obstacles and difficulties and receives wealth, prosperity, family happiness, and the blessings of the Goddess.
