According to legend, during the reign of Mughal invaders, Siddha Rishis concealed the idol of Lord Pashupatinath in the depths of the Kshipra River to protect it from desecration. Over time, as the water level of the river receded, the idol resurfaced, revealing itself to the Acharyas (priests) who were offering prayers on the riverbanks. This miraculous event led to the construction of the temple at the same spot where the idol was found.
