This special Puja is being organized this Tuesday at Bhadrakali Shaktipeeth, Kurukshetra, a divine opportunity by itself. The Puja begins with purification rituals, raksha-sutra tying and sankalp by learned priests. A special Havan is then performed using sacred elements including black sesame, mustard seeds, camphor, cloves, ghee, lemon, and fragrant samidha. Mantra chanting includes “Om Bhadrakalyai Namah,” the Kali Beej Mantra, and Durga Kavach.
In the sacred fire, the destruction of evil eye, envy, jealousy, obstacles and negative vibrations is invoked. After the Puja, devotees offer parikrama at the holy Yagya ground in the temple premises and offer red flowers, sindoor and coconut at the lotus feet of the Goddess. This Tuesday, a special Nazar Dosh Shanti Puja and Yagya will be performed at Shri Devikup Bhadrakali Temple, Kurukshetra, one of the 52 Shaktipeeths. According to belief, the right ankle of Maa Sati fell here, making this location immensely sacred and powerful.
Another legend states that, before the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas along with Lord Shri Krishna worshipped Maa Bhadrakali here to receive blessings for victory. After their wish was fulfilled, they offered their horses in gratitude. This tradition continues today, where devotees offer horses made of silver, clay or metal after their wishes are accomplished. It is also believed that this is where the mundan (first hair ceremony) of Lord Krishna and Balarama was performed.
