However, because he had already tasted the nectar, Swarbhanu became immortal. The head portion became Rahu, and the body became Ketu. It is believed that after being severed by the Sudarshan Chakra, the head portion fell in the Pauri region - where this temple stands today. Hence, this place is known as the Rahu Temple.
