Goddess Durga is a symbol of power. According to Shaivism, Shiva and Shakti are two aspects of the same truth. Shiva represents the supreme consciousness or the passive masculine element, while Shakti symbolises active energy or creative power. It is believed that Shiva is incomplete without Shakti, and Shakti is incomplete without Shiva. For this reason, devotees also worship Lord Shiva during Navratri to attain auspicious results. According to scriptures, one should chant the Panchakshari mantra to please Lord Shiva. "Om Namah Shivaya" is the Panchakshari mantra, which means a mantra consisting of five syllables. It is said to be the first mantra in the world, and by chanting it, one can attain any desired result. It is believed that chanting the Navarna mantra and the Panchakshari mantra during Navratri brings blessings of happiness, prosperity, and abundance of wealth from Lord Shiva and Shakti, that is, Goddess Durga. If these mantras are chanted along with a Rudra Yagya, the worship can yield even greater results. Therefore, on the seventh day of Navratri, 1,25,000 Navarna Mantra Jaap, 100008 Shiv Panchakshari Mantra Jaap and Rudra Yagya will be held at the Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh. It is believed that even today, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati come here at night to play Chaucer Dice. According to a mythological story, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night after wandering through all the three worlds.
