Panch Moksha Tirth Pind Daan Mahanushthan Maha Pind Daan and Til Tarpan for Peace of Ancestor's Souls and Resolving Family Disputes

Pitru Paksha, also known as Shradh Paksha, is one of the most significant religious festivals in Hinduism. It is observed every year starting from the Pratipada Tithi of the Bhadrapada month and continues until Amavasya. During this period, followers of Hinduism perform special rituals, Tarpan, and Pind Daan for the peace and contentment of the souls of their ancestors. Pitru Paksha is widely mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures like the Vedas, Upanishads, and Puranas. According to the Garuda Purana, performing Shradh, Tarpan, and Pind Daan is essential to attain freedom from the debts owed to one's ancestors (Pitru Rin). It is believed that those who do not perform Shradh for their ancestors properly may face various types of hardships in life. It is said that a family afflicted with Pitru Dosh may face problems like lack of promotion in jobs, difficulties in children’s careers and studies, and health issues for the main family members. Therefore, to get relief from these problems, Pind Daan and Tarpan are performed. Shradh performed during Pitru Paksha has two main parts: Pind Daan, which means offering food, and Tarpan, which means offering water. According to the Vayu Purana, it is believed that whatever is offered to the ancestors with faith and sesame seeds reaches them in the form of Amrit. Moreover, it is believed that if these sacred rituals are performed at the five Moksha Sthalis (places of liberation) simultaneously, one can receive a thousandfold greater benefit. So, let us understand the significance of performing Pitru Puja at these five Moksha pilgrimage sites during Pitru Paksha.

🛕 Ganga Ghat, Haridwar: The Ganga River is known as Mokshadayini (the giver of liberation). It is believed that performing Pind Daan and Tarpan in the Ganga brings peace to the souls of the ancestors and that their blessings are bestowed upon their descendants, leading to happiness, peace, and prosperity in their lives.

🛕 Pishach Mochan Kund, Kashi: This kund (sacred pond) in Varanasi is especially significant for ancestors whose souls are restless due to sinful actions in their previous lives. It is believed that performing Pind Daan and Tarpan here liberates the ancestors from the Pishach Yoni and helps them ascend to the heavenly realms.

🛕 Dharmaranya Vedi, Gaya: The sacred site of Gaya is considered highly auspicious for performing Pitru Puja and Shradh. The rituals performed here bring peace to the ancestors' souls and help them attain liberation. This site is associated with Lord Vishnu, whose grace helps bring peace to the ancestors.

🛕 Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj: Triveni Sangam is the confluence point where the three rivers—Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati—meet. It is believed that anyone who takes a dip in this sacred confluence (Sangam) is freed from all sins and attains liberation (moksha).

🛕 Narmada Ghat, Khandwa: The Narmada River is also known as Mokshadayini (the giver of liberation). Performing Tarpan and Pind Daan on the banks of the Narmada brings peace to the ancestors and their blessings lead to the well-being and prosperity of their descendants.

Additionally, during the Pitru Paksha, there is a tradition of performing acts of charity for ancestors. It is believed that offerings made during this time yield double the rewards. These offerings include Panch Bhog, lamp offerings (Deep Daan), and Ganga Aarti. By incorporating these additional options—such as Panch Bhog, Deep Daan, and Ganga Aarti—you can enhance the effectiveness of your puja and gain greater benefits. Participate in the Maha Pind Daan and Til Tarpan organised through Sri Mandir and receive blessings from your ancestors.

For Peace of Ancestor’s Soul
Due to Pitru Dosh, one may often face continuous problems. No matter how much effort they put in, nothing seems to succeed. According to scriptures, there is a ritual for alleviating Pitru Dosh known as Pitru Dosh Nivaran Puja. Participating in this special puja at Panch Tirth during the Pitru Paksha, brings peace to the ancestors.

For Relief from Resolving Family Disputes
Sometimes, families experience ongoing tension without any apparent reason. One possible cause of such conflicts is Pitru Dosh. In such cases, participating in this special puja at Panch Tirth during the Pitru Paksha, can help in alleviating family disputes and bringing peace to the household.
puja benefits
For Attainment of a Healthy Life
Pitru Dosh can lead to health issues within the family. Individuals affected by Pitru Dosh often struggle to find effective treatments for recurring health problems or illnesses. This special puja at Panch Tirth during the Pitru Paksha, helps in alleviating health issues and blesses devotees with a healthy and happy life.
puja benefits
Pitru Paksha Special Panch Bhog Mahadaan
During the Pitru Paksha period, the act of giving (Daan) is considered highly significant. Religious texts state that offering food to Brahmans (Brahman Bhoj) along with feeding cows, dogs, birds, and ants is considered a meritorious act, known as Panch Bali or Panch Bhog. It is believed that when these beings are fed during Pitru Paksha, the ancestors are satisfied with the food consumed by them and bestow blessings upon their descendants.

In Sanatan Dharma, it is believed that performing Pind Daan and Tarpan at Moksha Sthali during the Pitru Paksha yields highly auspicious results. Therefore, this year, a grand event will be held during Pitru Paksha, which includes a combined Mahapuja at the Panch Moksha Tirths such as Ganga Ghat Haridwar, Pishach Mochan Kund, Dharmaranya Vedi, Triveni Sangam, and Narmada Ghat. This event will provide devotees with a profound spiritual experience.

The Ganga Ghat in Haridwar is considered sacred because the Ganga River descends from the mountains into the plains here. Performing Pitru Tarpan and Pind Daan is of special significance at this site. It is believed that performing Pind Daan and Shradh in the holy water of the Ganga grants liberation (moksha) to the ancestors.

The Pishach Mochan Kund in Kashi holds special significance in providing peace to the souls of ancestors. Performing Tarpan here helps in liberation from Pitru Dosh. The Pishach Dosh affects souls that are trapped due to wrong deeds during their lifetime. Taking a holy dip and performing Tarpan in this Kund brings peace to the ancestors.

The Dharmaranya Vedi in Gaya is highly effective for resolving Pitru Dosh. Performing Shradh rituals here grants moksha to the ancestors. This place is associated with Lord Vishnu, so the Pitru Puja performed here brings peace to the ancestors.

The Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj is the place where three rivers—Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati—converge. It is believed that anyone who takes a holy dip at this confluence (Sangam) is cleansed of all sins and attains liberation (moksha).

The Narmada River is also considered important for the peace of the souls of ancestors. Performing Tarpan and Pind Daan on the banks of the Narmada River brings peace to the ancestors, and they bless their descendants.

Performing Pitru Puja at these five sacred places grants peace and liberation to the ancestors, thereby making the descendants' lives prosperous and joyful.
