According to another legend, Yamaraj, the god of death who resides in the southern direction, flees upon hearing the name of the goddess, which is why she is known as Dakshina Kali. It means that Yamaraj, the god of death, whose kingdom i.e. Yamalok is situated in the south direction, also stays away from the devotees of Maa Kali and after death, Yamdoot does not take them to Yamalok. Therefore, it is believed that by performing special puja of this form of Maa Kali, one can receive blessings for the fulfilment of desires and removal of obstacles.
