Located near the Devagiri hills of Maharashtra, Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga is considered the twelfth and final Jyotirlinga, which is a symbol of the power of true devotion. Its mythological story is linked to the exclusive faith of Ghushma, a great devotee of Lord Shiva. A Brahmin named Sudharma lived in the Devagiri region with his wife Sudaha. Due to not having children, Sudaha got her husband married to her younger sister Ghushma. Ghushma was a supreme devotee of Shiva and would daily make 101 earthen Shivlings and worship them with devotion while immersing them in a nearby pond.
Pleased with her devotion, Lord Shiva granted her the boon of a son. But seeing this happiness of her sister, jealousy arose in Sudaha's mind and she cruelly killed that child and threw his body into the pond. When Ghushma received information about this tragic incident, even then she did not lose her faith and continued to worship Shiva with a calm mind. Moved by her true devotion, Lord Shiva appeared himself, gave life back to her son, and asked her to seek a boon. Ghushma requested to forgive her sister and to reside there forever. Lord Shiva accepted her request and said that he would be established here by the name "Ghushmeshwar".
From here, Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga was established and even today devotees perform 101 circumambulations of the temple in memory of Ghushma's devotion, believing that where there is true faith, God appears himself.
