Shakti Peeth Bhadrakali Temple, Kurukshetra, is considered a place of immense importance from a spiritual and historical perspective. It is also known by the names Savitri Peeth, Devi Peeth, Kalika Peeth, and Adi Peeth. This is one of the 51 sacred Shaktipeeths, where pieces of Mata Sati's body parts fell after her self-immolation. According to the scriptures, when Lord Shiva was wandering across the universe in grief carrying the mortal body of Mata Sati, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to cut Sati's body into pieces for the protection of creation. It is believed that the right ankle of Mata Sati fell at this very spot, which made this place an extremely powerful center of Shakti worship.
