This holy Rahu temple located in Uttarakhand is a rare place where Rahu Dev is worshipped along with Lord Shiva. There are very few such temples in India where Rahu and Shiva are worshipped together.
According to ancient story, Rahu and Ketu are forms of the demon Swarbhanu. At the time of the churning of the ocean, Swarbhanu sat among the Gods and drank the nectar. When Lord Vishnu found out about this, he separated his head from the body with the Sudarshan Chakra. But due to drinking the nectar, he became immortal. His body was known as Ketu and the head as Rahu.
It is believed that the head of Rahu fell in Pauri, where later this temple was established. According to some beliefs, this temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya, while according to another story, the Pandavas worshipped here during their journey to heaven.
