In Sanatan Dharma, the day of Amavasya holds special significance, and it is considered highly auspicious to worship Lord Shiva and Maa Gauri together, as Shiva and Shakti are incomplete without each other. Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati embody the perfect balance of power, love, and devotion, representing the ideal partnership in both spiritual and worldly realms. Maa Parvati, deeply devoted to Lord Shiva, performed intense penance to win Him as her husband, as she had already accepted Him in her heart. Her unwavering love shook the three worlds. Lord Shiva, pleased by her devotion, appeared but initially suggested she marry someone else. Maa Parvati refused, declaring her heart belonged only to Him. Moved by her love and resolve, Lord Shiva agreed, uniting them in a perfect balance of love and devotion. After Chaturmas, the Margashirsha month is considered very auspicious for performing ceremonies like marriage. This is why many marriages take place during this time. To mark this Vivah Utsav Kaal, the Gauri Kedareshwar Vivah Siddhi Amavasya Shanti Puja will be organised at the Shri Gauri-Kedareshwar Mahadev Mandir in Kashi. According to religious legends, King Mandhata, a descendant of Lord Rama's lineage, was a committed devotee of Lord Shiva. He used to visit Kedarnath regularly and offered Lord Shiva khichdi. Following Lord Shiva's advice, he also performed rigorous penance in Varanasi. Through his penance, Lord Shiva appeared from Khichdi, manifesting as the Shivalinga known as Gauri Kedareshwar. This Shivalinga in Kashi consists of two parts, symbolising Hari-Hara. It is believed that along with the presence of Gauri, Kedareshwar, Mahavishnu and Mahalakshmi in this Shivlinga, there is a presence of Goddess Annpoorna too, as it is made-up of Khichdi.
