Ganga Jayanti - Access Untouched Energy of the Divine Flow Ganga Kalash Yatra Tirth from Gomukh Glacier to Gangotri Temple Where the Ganga Begins – Let Her First Drop Bless You First

🌊 On this Ganga Saptami, reawaken your devotion and reconnect with the sacred journey of penance and divine blessings. 🙏🕉️

🌸 Receive the grace of the Ganga from the very source of her sacred stream 🌼🌿✨

In Hinduism, Maa Ganga is revered not just as a sacred river but as a divine goddess - the giver of life, the remover of sins, and the bestower of liberation. According to ancient scriptures, Ganga Saptami or Ganga Jayanti marks the divine manifestation of Maa Ganga in the form of a river. It is believed that on this day, Maa Ganga offered her waters in worship to Lord Vishnu and earned a revered place in the celestial realms. According to legends, before descending to Earth, Goddess Ganga resided as the holy water at Lord Vishnu’s feet and later in the kamandal (sacred water pot) of Lord Brahma. Thus, her presence is considered supremely pure and sanctified even before she touched Earth. Therefore, on this auspicious occasion, a sacred Kalash Yatra will be organized by Sri Mandir, in which holy water is collected from Gomukh, the origin of the Ganges, and carried to the Gangotri Temple. This journey symbolizes King Bhagirath's deep devotion and the divine descent of Maa Ganga, allowing devotees to partake in that same celestial energy.

According to ancient scriptures, the story of King Bhagirath is more than a myth—it's a symbol of deep spiritual surrender and ancestral liberation. Legend says that the 60,000 sons of King Sagar were reduced to ashes by the curse of Sage Kapil and were denied salvation. Determined to free them, King Bhagirath undertook intense penance to bring the river Ganga down to Earth so her sacred waters could purify their souls. His unwavering effort and spiritual discipline are now remembered as "Bhagirath Prayas"—a symbol of generational healing and divine grace.

To honor this divine legacy, Sri Mandir is organizing the Gangotpatti Jalabhishek & Bhagirath Tapasya Sankalpa Puja at Gangotri Dham. While Gomukh marks the geographical origin of the Ganga, Gangotri is her spiritual home. The journey begins at Gomukh Glacier, where the first sacred drops of Bhagirathi flow from a cave resembling a cow’s mouth, and ends at Gangotri Temple, where Maa Ganga is ceremonially worshipped. It is believed that performing rituals at Gangotri brings immense spiritual merit and fulfills every sincere wish. This sacred ceremony is not only helpful in relieving Pitru Dosh (ancestral afflictions), but it also provides a path to peace, spiritual purification, and divine blessings. Participate in this auspicious journey and receive the grace of Maa Ganga as well as blessings from your forefathers.

Gomukh, Gangotri Dham,Uttarkashi, Gangotri Dham

 Gomukh, Gangotri Dham,Uttarkashi, Gangotri Dham
Gomukh, located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, is an extremely sacred site, considered the terminus of the Gangotri Glacier. Situated at an altitude of approximately 13,200 feet above sea level, it lies around 18–19 kilometers from Gangotri Dham. The name "Gomukh" means "mouth of a cow", inspired by the shape of the rocky opening here, which resembles a cow’s mouth. This is the point from where the first stream of the Bhagirathi River emerges — the river that later becomes famous as the Ganga. According to legend, it was here that Mother Ganga descended to Earth as a result of King Bhagirath’s intense penance. The glaciers, snowy valleys, and pure Ganga water of this region are said to provide deep spiritual energy to devotees and seekers. Although the journey to Gomukh is challenging, the spiritual reward it offers is considered priceless.

Gangotri, located downstream from Gomukh, is the site of the revered Gangotri Temple, where Mother Ganga is worshipped with full rituals. This sacred place sits at an altitude of around 10,000 feet above sea level and is a key stop in the Char Dham Yatra. It is believed that at this very location, the gods and sages welcomed Ganga, and King Bhagirath offered Ganga water for the salvation of his ancestors. At the Gangotri Temple, the idol of Goddess Ganga is worshipped from Akshaya Tritiya to Kartik Purnima. Performing Abhishek with Ganga water and remembering Goddess Ganga here is said to wash away all sins and open the path to spiritual growth in one’s life.
