Tripindi shraadh is a key part of this ritual, where pinds (offerings) made of sesame seeds, rice, and Kusha grass are offered for three generations: the father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. It is believed that doing so pacifies the souls of the ancestors, who in turn may bless the family with happiness and prosperity. In Pind Daan, pinds made of rice, sesame seeds, flowers, and water are offered at a holy pilgrimage site or river. This is considered very effective for seeking relief from Pitru Dosha. Similarly, Til Tarpan is a very important act for ancestral peace. Tarpan offered with sesame seeds and water is believed to help satisfy the souls of the ancestors and may open the way for stalled progress in the family. It is also believed that performing Til Tarpan on shraadh Dashami can lessen the effects of Pitru Dosha and foster peace, harmony, and prosperity within the family.
