Papmochani Ekadashi, observed during Krishna Paksha in the month of Chaitra, is a sacred occasion dedicated to spiritual purification and liberation from past sins. As the first Ekadashi of the year, it is believed to wash away negative karma, remove obstacles, and bestow divine blessings. In Hinduism, Ekadashi holds special significance as it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, also known as Narayan. The manifestation of Goddess Bagalamukhi is closely associated with Lord Narayan, symbolizing their deep connection. According to legend, during the Satya Yuga, there was a demon named Madan who had received a boon from Lord Brahma that he could not be defeated. Empowered by this boon, Madan caused havoc across the three worlds. Distressed by his tyranny, the gods approached Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu revealed that defeating the demon Madan required the worship of Goddess Bagalamukhi. To invoke her, Lord Vishnu performed intense penance on the banks of the Haridra Sarovar, a lake with yellow water. Pleased by his penance, Goddess Bagalamukhi appeared and vanquished the demon Madan. After Madan’s demise, the gods and sages praised Goddess Bagalamukhi and sought her blessings for victory.
This is why the worship of Narayan and Bagalamukhi on Papmochani Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious and effective. Goddess Bagalamukhi, revered as the goddess of justice, victory, and the destruction of enemies, is one of the ten Mahavidyas. Due to her emergence from the Haridra Sarovar, she is also known as Peetambara. Her form radiates a yellow aura, and the color yellow holds special significance in her worship. Goddess Bagalamukhi is regarded as the deity who helps in restraining enemies and neutralizing their power. Her worship provides devotees with strength, courage, and confidence.
