Narmada Jayanti is celebrated on the seventh day (Saptami) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Magha. This day marks the birth or manifestation of Maa Narmada. On this occasion, devotees worship the Narmada River, which brings happiness, peace, and prosperity into their lives. According to ancient legends, Maa Narmada was born from the sweat of Lord Shiva. While Lord Shiva was immersed in deep meditation on the Maikal mountain, drops of his sweat fell, giving birth to Maa Narmada. This is why Maa Narmada is also considered Lord Shiva's daughter according to traditional beliefs. It is said that Lord Shiva instructed Maa Narmada to come to earth and granted her the boon of being eternal. Hence, the Narmada River holds a special place in Sanatan Dharma.

According to a mythological story, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night after wandering through all the three worlds.
