This year, a unique and powerful combination arises during Pitru Paksha. The Panchami Shraadh falls under the Bharani Nakshatra, ruled by Lord Yama, the God of Dharma and death. Scriptures emphasize that performing Shraadh during this Nakshatra holds immense power. This sacred Pitru Shanti Puja is performed at two of the most revered places on earth. First, it takes place at the Dharmaranya Vedi in Gaya, where our scriptures tell the story of the demon Gayasura. Gayasura performed such intense penance that it disturbed both gods and humans. The gods turned to Lord Vishnu, who assured them of his help. Using his divine power, Lord Vishnu made Gayasura lie down on the earth, where he struck him with his mace, bringing peace to the worlds. Lord Vishnu then blessed Gayasura, declaring his body would become a sacred site. It is believed that any devotee who performs Shraadh or Pind Daan at this site helps their ancestors find their way to heaven.
