Lord Vishnu performed intense penance on the banks of Haridra Sarovar and manifested Maa Bagalamukhi. The Goddess subdued and destroyed Madan Asura, restoring balance to creation.

Having emerged from Haridra Sarovar, she is also known as Pitambara, and the color yellow holds special significance in her worship.
