According to legend, when Maa Yashoda didn’t allow Shani Dev to see baby Krishna—fearing his influence, Shani Dev performed penance in a forest near Nandgaon. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Krishna appeared before him in the form of a cuckoo (kokila) and blessed him to stay there forever—thus, the place came to be known as Kokilavan. Chanting Lord Krishna’s name is believed to pacify Shani and bring emotional balance and spiritual comfort during challenging times.
